A soccer player's best friend. By Kamal de Gregory |
If you've been around the game long enough, you've probably heard it a few times. The first time I heard it was from Robbie Stahl, USSF "A" licensed coach. After hearing it, I tried to find out why a wall is a soccer player's best friend.
That quote is often the only instruction players receive. It's up to the players to figure out how and why the wall is their best friend, and that wastes a lot of time. Players have to figure out which training skills to work on and how train against the wall.
Once I learned, the technique helped me wherever I played. Whether I was in Costa Rica or Finland, all I needed was a wall to work on weaknesses and improve strengths. For devoted players, a wall is sometimes the only option when training partners are hard to come by and circumstances are limited.
Knowing how to utilize a wall properly helps players progress much faster than without one. The wall is a training partner that can always be ready and counted on to return the ball to you. A player with proper training technique against a wall will progress two or thee times faster then one without.
Indeed, a wall is a soccer player's best friend, so every player should learn how to work with their best friend. |
