He said that the basics are the main thing that propelled him into soccer stardom. "Juggling and ball control, those are the main thing, " Beasley said.
"If you have that, then you are ahead of a lot of kids. A lot of kids don't have that knowledge. They just want to go out and play, they don't have the fundamentals. Some kids just want to go have fun and score goals, and that is fine and dandy. But if you don't have ball control, you can't do things that you want with the ball and you can’t have the abilities with the ball to help your team any way you can".
The U.S. players said basic skills were important and still are. At practice, in between drills and scrimmage, the players still try to out juggle one another. Beasley said that they all still work on their skills everyday, he also said that besides practicing skill, a lot of the players still use the lessons they Learnt as youth players. For Beasley, he said one youth coach helped him realize how he needs to approach the game, and he still uses that mindset today. "He told me to let the game come to me," Beasley said. "Sometimes guys try to make the game by themselves; they try and do things by them selves, sometimes things don't work that way.
You have got to let the game come to you, Let it develop and get into it. Ease it in once you get the feel for it, the touch of the ball, then you can start playing 110 percent. Let it come to you, until then, don't get ahead of yourself.
